Christmas in Leicester promises to be full of magical moments – packed with festive activities, celebrating the best the city has to offer!

From ice skating on a real ice rink, taking a ride on the 35m high Wheel of Light, to exploring the festive light trail at Enlightened Leicester at Abbey Park or enjoying the Christmas spirit at the Clock Tower.

There is plenty to entertain the whole family throughout the festive season from enjoying traditional pantomimes and world-class shows to watching blockbuster films at the cinema. And if that’s not enough there are also exhibitions, craft fairs, carol services, fantastic competitions and much more!

Ice rink opens at 9.30am and first session is 10am. Last session starts at 9pm.

Jubilee Square’s real ice rink is back! With its covered rink, skaters can show off their best moves, come rain or shine, making it the coolest place to be this season.

With super off-peak pricing there will be opportunities to skate for just £7 per person (+ booking fee) at selected dates and times.

There is a whole month of skating on 720 sqm of real ice to perfect your moves! And this year experience 20,000 twinkling lights under the ice.

Plans are in place for an outdoor festive food court with Alpine Tavern, food vendors and a grotto! Details are still to be confirmed and are subject to licence.

Christmas Wheel of Light

Benefit from a bird’s eye view of Leicester’s Christmas lights from the 110-ft/35m high Ferris wheel.

Tickets can be purchased from the ticket booth on site. A ride is approximately 8 to 10 minutes.  There are 24 covered gondolas, each seating 6 people. Wheelchair access is available to one of the gondolas – assistance will be provided for anyone using this gondola.

Town Hall Square will be different in 2024 and lit up as you’ve never seen it before.

A flurry of Christmas trees and the traditional nativity scene will be installed for lights switch-on on 20th November. Plus, new for 2024 will be a new Christmas lighting installation to animate the square.

Enjoy the tradition of Christmas at the delightful Nativity scene in Town Hall Square. In the stable you will find Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus in a manger, who are joined by all the traditional characters. The scene is brought to life with lights and music and a recording of local school children telling the nativity story.

30 November-24 December Phoenix

Christmas Cinema at Phoenix

Phoenix is full of festive film fabulousness this December. Starting from the 30 November they’ll be bringing you the spirit of Christmas, with Classic Christmas Crackers like It’s a Wonderful Life, White Christmas and Die Hard. You’ll also be able to enjoy Family Favourites like Elf, The Polar Express and of course the Muppet Christmas Carol.

They also have some special Family Pyjama Party screenings of Home Alone, Elf and a double bill of The Snowman and The Snowman and the Snowdog on Christmas eve. Tickets include a hot chocolate and Christmas snack.

This is in addition to all the latest blockbusters like Paddington in Peru, Gladiator II and Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. Check it all out on their website

Santa’s Grotto at Jubilee Square

Make your wishes come true and visit Santa and his elf at Jubilee Square this Christmas. Make sure you tell them about all your good deeds this year!

£15.00 per child
Includes a present from Santa (worth £8), sweets and a polaroid photo for those Christmas memories.

Every Weekend from 7 December to 23 December Highcross lower mall next to Bodycare

Santa’s Grotto at Highcross

Come to Highcross this year to meet Santa at his grotto.

The Scandinavian-style Grotto will transform a unit on the lower mall, next to Bodycare, into an enchanting retreat for shoppers, capturing the cosy, ‘hygge’ atmosphere, through its rustic backdrop, fairy lights and traditional wooden decorations.

Shoppers on the look-out for Santa will find him at his Grotto every weekend throughout December, welcoming families for meet-and-greets and themed photo opportunities in his sleigh, right up until Monday 23 December. A quiet hour session will also run each Sunday from 11:00am – 12:00pm.

While the experience is free to attend, with no pre-booking required, shoppers are encouraged to make a voluntary donation, via the nearby tap and go stations, to the centre’s charity of the year, Shaw Trust.

Santa will be at his grotto on the following days:

  • Saturday 7 December 12pm till 6pm and Sunday 8 December 11am till 5pm
  • Saturday 14 December 12pm till 6pm and Sunday 15 December 11am till 5pm
  • Saturday 21 December 12pm till 6pm and Sunday 22 December 11am till 5pm
  • Monday 23 December 12pm till 6pm

Whilst at Highcross look out for the surprise and delight elves who will be treating customers with some festive surprises!
